Just Believe
Just Believe is one of the most personal drawings I have ever created, and even though it was completed years ago, I never thought I would exhibit it. The drawing is in memory of my uncle Jose Hernandez and my cousin Daniel Hernandez. They were a part of my everyday life and were consumed by COVID only two days apart. The world shared my grief, and coping would have to wait until the plague lifted and we could begin to lament what we had lost.
Within "Just Believe" is about hope. The drawing is heavily influenced by religion; however, I wish for the non-believers to interpret it as faith in mankind, to abandon their differences and help others as brothers and sisters, especially in need. Within the drawing, I presented concepts of the world trying to re-establish its balance. The imagery of COVID within the flying locust being pursued by swallows and the strong presence of water both take one's last breath and also cleanse away evils.
