To See and Hear Without Prejudice

The inspiration for this drawing revolves around perceptions and how they manifest and change our identity and how we interact with the world.  Having my children and observing their behavior helped me to appreciate the beauty of being naïve and pure.  As we move through life, we are constantly being exposed to life in its abundance.  We are taught and have innate concepts of morality and are exposed to good and bad examples of “the model” of a civilized person.  We try to filter the good from the bad, but we cannot help but be burdened and carry negative energy and feelings of hatred, betrayal, and prejudice, which are a few but the hardest at times to understand “why.”  This drawing juxtaposes old and young, prejudice to tolerance/objectiveness, indifference to sympathy, bitterness to kindness, tainted and pure.  To See and Hear Without Prejudice is an image that speaks of setting aside hatred and mistrust and looking at the world with unclouded eyes.
